Day 11 was a sea day followed, the next morning, with a cruise through Prince Christian Sound.
After a very rough
crossing from Iceland today dawned bright and sunny. Still very cold, but
undaunted we were up promptly for our cruise through this Fjord. We had on
board a geologist who was talking us through the features of what we were
seeing, which was interesting. Again my high school geography came to the fore
- schist, basalt, glaciers, hanging
valleys and many other terms.
The decks were busy
with passengers all wanting that perfect shot - mostly with tablets and phones,
some with big cameras with heavy lenses and others with a pocket point and
shoot. I was very happy to still use my light camera with a great zoom.
No matter what
device is used, very few cameras would be able to match the magnificence of
what we saw. Rugged peaks and snow capped valleys, waterfalls and a number of
glaciers. We did see icebergs at the entrance to the fjord, but they were no
bigger than we have seen in Alaska.
All in all it was a
wonderful day.
