Our drive along Going to the Sun Road today was thwarted because wildfires on the Howe Ridge to the west of Lake Macdonald, had closed the road to Logan Pass. So after a look around the Visitor Centre, we took a drive up to Polebridge Ranger Station. This is a route up the western side of the park. Pretty countryside. We stopped for a break at a roadside 'bar' advertising huckleberry ice cream, so we went in. This was a very out of the way place, but it was indeed a bar and they did have huckleberry ice cream.
There were were three other people there. Little did I know, but the father was wearing what looked like to me, a cowboy outfit, so I asked him if I could take his photograph! It turned out they were from Texas! Anyway, he and his son obliged and put on their cowboy hats and showed off the knife on his hip! So that's my best effort of a cowboy photo!
We made it as far as Polebridge and they turned around for the return trip. After parking once again in Apgar, we went for a walk along one of the many trails. All in all a very pleasant first day.
