We started out early
today which was quite an achievement as we had to pack up to depart.
Our herd of bison
was minutes from the accommodation, meandering across the road. So we watched
one last time and carried on.
We are heading to
the south entrance and Grand Teton NP. We drove on by the elk-jam, happy to
lose all that traffic as the elk were conveniently located at a turn out!
We stopped and drove
to all the places we skipped on our first day racing to Old Faithful.
- Fountain Flat Drive
- Fountain Paint Pot
- Firehole Lake Drive
- Grand Prismatic Spring
We called in to Old
Faithful again, not knowing its timing and as there were already substantial
numbers of people gathering we decided to check the timing. Only 10 minutes to
wait so we positioned ourselves upwind to get a better view of the spray.
After the show, we
took off around the loop boardwalk surrounding the geyser. Then we headed for
the gate with only a brief stop into Grant Village for a park stamp for Anita's
book.
We stopped at a
couple of waterfalls - Lewis and Moose - and soon we found a good place to stop
for lunch. It was warm now, but the wind was still cool.
After lunch our
journey continued and soon we were seeing the range of which the Tetons are
only a small part. The Snake River flows through its carved out valley and the
views are nothing short of spectacular.
We are staying in a
cabin facility out of town (it is very expensive to stay in Jackson Hole) and
once settled into our cabin we headed to town for dinner and to explore the
town further.
Tomorrow - Snake
River float!
