Day 36 - Custer 28 September

Well, having been greeted with 10+cm of snow on the ground, we spent the morning in the cottage. We spent an interesting time watching a pick-up truck slide down a small bank. Then watched again a bit later to see the tow truck come and pull him out.

After lunch the snow (which was really very wet and slushy) was melting. We headed out to see what we could see. This weekend happens to be the weekend of the annual Custer Buffalo Roundup, when the buffalo in Custer State Park are rounded up to be culled.

We chanced upon the route which was located in the south end of the park. With some pretty snowy vistas the snow cover diminished as we drove south. Then as we came over a hill we saw hundreds of buffalo which had been corralled for checking over.

They are checked for pests and new animals are branded or tagged. It would be quite a sight I'm sure to see the cowboys do their thing!

I was up at midnight and just took a peek outside as it seemed to be light. Snow was already settling

Our welcome this morning

Ian and Jim went for a walk into town. We were in no hurry to drive anywhere!

This is the truck which slid down the bank and had to be towed out

It was bitterly cold

One minute the snow is hanging on the tree ....

.... the next minute it falls
