Today we had a bus
transfer to the port which all went very smoothly. Boarding was also very
uneventful and we were on board before 12 noon. After reacquainting ourselves
with the layout of the ship we went to the buffet for a light lunch.
Once rooms were
available, we left our additional bags in our room and went for a wander about
the ship before meeting some other cruisers for drinks on the pool deck. Muster
was a relatively painless affair. What was interesting, however, was the addition
of instructions regarding safety clothing for "polar waters" -
gloves, a balaclava, a special outer garment - all contained in a pack which in
the event of an emergency would be provided to passengers.
After muster it was
time for evening drinks. We caught up with friends and had a very pleasant hour
catching up with them before they headed off to dinner and we went back to our
cabin to shower and change for dinner a
bit later.
We had reasonable
discourse with our dining companions, but they were two couples who were very
much into the current US President, so we had to be very careful about what we
said. I don't see us spending every evening with them. We shall see what tomorrow
will bring.
